Group Lead Volunteer – South Powys area, Wales

Who this opportunity is open to

Someone who:

  • has lived experience of (desirable but not essential) : (i) arthritis or MSK condition; or (ii) caring for/supporting a person with arthritis or MSK condition; or (iii) has knowledge of arthritis or MSK condition (eg Health Care Professional)
  • is aged 18 years old and over
  • can reach / live within 10 miles of any of the following postcodes/areas : to restart a group in Brecon (LD3 9AY); or to start new groups in Llandrindod Wells (LD1 5DY), Crickhowell (NP8 1AG), Builth Wells (LD2 3DZ), Hay-on-Wye (HR3 5DS)
  • can be involved face to face, with a small group (eg 2-10 people), medium group (eg 11-39 people).

A bit about the role

We’re looking for Group Lead Volunteers to offer local support for people across the South Powys area to help us build, co-ordinate and lead peer support and activity groups. Seeking someone locally who can build on our initial work and continue to ensure that support remains in place locally. Some administration tasks would need to be completed after every group meeting held.

What does the role involve?

The areas of our work you would be involved with are:

  • Administration

You would need to give some time each month. Amount of time would depend on how often a group meets – eg if once a month (approx. 5 hours each month), if twice a month (approx. 8-10 hours each month). This includes travel, group session time, administration tasks, preparation for following sessions, checking in with Coordinator.

Practical Considerations

You will need:

  • Access to a computer/laptop/smartphone (desirable but not essential)
  • Access to the internet (desirable but not essential)
  • Access to a phone
  • Ability to travel
  • Access to a car and/or public transport

Induction and training are not required before starting this opportunity.

Some training is to be undertaken after starting this opportunity and would be made available through a blended approach - a combination of online, face to face, and hard copy materials. Approximately 4 hours for local training, plus any further identified training for volunteers across the organisation.
