Looking for a councillor

Hi,

Can anyone recommend an organisation that has councillors of psychologists that specialise in chronic pain or RA sufferers?

I think this might be really good for me.

Hi, you can try this directory -https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/memberarticles/chronic-pain- although your GP and/or Pain Clinic should be able to help. I was prescribed a course of CBT when I was diagnosed with Clinical depression and PTSD but it actually made me worse, I walked out of the first session and went straight over the road to buy a packet of ciggies when I had not smoked for years! Ah well, it "horses for courses" I suppose so it probably helps some people. Good Luck.

I am aware of some Buddhist groups that offer courses in the concept and practise of 'mindfulness' for pain management.

Obviously that is not specifically 'counselling' but if you were looking for something connected to the psychology of pain (with a view to amelioration) it might be of interest.

Hi Mike,

I also have PTSD and after my first fifty minute appointment at one specialist centre (the strangest and most 'creepy' experience of my life !) found myself running like billy-o to the nearest public house where I sank three pints of Stella in very rapid succession.

Hi Arthur, a pint or six would have been a good idea BUT I am on Morphine so cannot drink regrettably - probably just as well really!

I was (and still am) on Codeine and should not drink alcohol either. The result was certainly interesting !
